State of Education and GE Foundation Grant on Agenda

ERIE – The Manufacturers' Association will host City of Erie School District Superintendent Dr. James Barker at the May Eggs ‘n’ Issues briefing starting at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the Association’s Conference Center, 2171 West 38th Street. All media are invited to attend.

Barker is in his 14th year as the leader of a school district with 12,500 students, 1400 staff members and a $124 million budget. In addition, the physical plant consists of 23 schools located within 21 buildings.

Topics for discussion for the morning meeting include the state of education as well as the recent GE Foundation Project grant awarded to the school district.

“Quality education for our young people is of paramount importance to all of us,” said Association President Ralph Pontillo. “Dr. Barker’s briefing will give our members a good opportunity to hear an update on the Erie School District.”
