Job Analysis/Descriptions/Evaluation

Often, doing a good job is a result of knowing what is expected of you. A comprehensive job analysis, well-defined job descriptions and job evaluation help create a system that allows employees to know what their responsibilities and tasks are - and help you, the employers, select the right people with the right qualifications for positions in your company. Evaluating employee performance based on solid job descriptions provides you with task-related reviews that help improve or enhance individual performance and strengthens legal defensibility of disciplinary actions.

Job Analysis

Through structured questionnaires and personal interviews of position incumbents, a profile of each job is created. Details regarding tasks, responsibilities and qualifications are defined. Management staff input is sought to ensure that each analysis is complete.

Job Description

From information gathered during the job analysis, comprehensive job descriptions are created. The job descriptions are written in easy to understand language and in a format that is compatible with the Americans with Disabilities act of 1990. Review by the management staff completes the process. The development of customized performance evaluations can be done as a by-product of job description development.

Job Evaluation

Using a point rating system, each job in your company is factored to help you evaluate your succession planning, training needs and salary structure. Management review and approval as well as comparison with local market information presents a clear, defined system for your company. The establishment of salary ranges for each position help you in your employee retention and recruitment efforts.

The Manufacturer's Association of Northwest Pennsylvania Human Resource Services Department recommends using this "total" approach to job classifying. However, you may use the segments separately if your company has parts of job classification in place.
